Happy Summer!

Today was the longest day of the year.  I loved every second of it.  I’ve ended this wonderful day by going on a nice family walk and watching Grace run through the automatic sprinklers on our elderly neighbor’s lawn.  She’s freezing but keeps going back for more.  I believe a nice warm shower is in order for her.

Our tire garden is coming along nicely.  We replanted some cucumbers and zucchini and after 3 days we’ve already seen some sprouts.  My dad suggested I whitewash the tires so the plants don’t get so hot and the added bonus…they won’t be such an eye sore.  Now barring any hailstorms we’ll have those veggies along with Anaheim and red chilis, spinich, bell peppers, some green onion and possibly one carrot!

We’ve lived here a year now.  This property’s yard was very much neglected, so our project this year is pulling weeds—tons of weeds.  I fill a garbage bag and it doesn’t even look like a dent was made.  We’re planting grass where I made the ‘weed dents’.  Slowly, say maybe by the year 2000-fill-in-the-blank we’ll have a half-way decent lawn.  It is looking better already.  In the meantime planting petunias in some pots will have to do.  I’m really enjoying being out in the sunshine and dirt.

I recently spent a relaxing day turning 50 years old.  Half a century.  What’s that supposed to feel like anyhow?  Old?  Because I don’t.  Wiser?  More than I was at 20 I suppose.  All I know is that I do feel secure and happy with where I am in my life.  I’m blessed with a great husband and best friend of 30 years.  I’m blessed with a 23 year old daughter who is finding her way in life and have no doubt that she’ll arrive safely at the destination the Lord has planned for her.  I’m blessed to have a 10 year old daughter who has her older sister’s sense of humor and makes us laugh every day.  I’m blessed and secure in my walk with the Lord knowing that ‘His word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path’.  So I guess turning 50 has made me feel reflective of my blessings.

It’s All I have so much Good

  4. A belated happy birthday to you!

The 50s aren't bad, though I have to admit I reached that decade with some dismay, mainly at the thought that there is more time behind me than before me. But overall it's been a pretty comfortable age.

  6. AAAALLLSOOOOOO.... your tire garden made me think of something. Every year my Dad and his employee plant a tire garden of sorts at his service station. Everywhere you look you see grease and cars that are being fixed. But if you look really hard, you will see a garden and a couple of bird feeders in the middle of the dirty stuff :) Again, Happy belated birthday and I love ya!
