Amazing Grace
John Newton (1725-1807)

Amazing Grace how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now am found
Was blind, but now I see.

T'was Grace that taught my heart to fear
And Grace, my fears relieved
How precious did that Grace appear
The hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come
'Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far
And Grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me
His word my hope secures
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures.

Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail
And mortal life shall cease
I shall possess within the veil
A life of joy and peace.

When we've been here ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we've first begun.

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now am found
Was blind, but now I see.

(See why It's All Good?!)

  1. One of my absolute favorites. It just sums it all up. Thanks for the lovely hymn. I sang it the whole time I read it. Loved it.

  2. Amazing Grace is wonderfully good. I love the song.
    Have a great week.

  3. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

This has to be one of the all-time best hymns. I have seen some of the extra verses you listed but not all of them.

  4. Yes'um, I do indeedy see why it's all good. :o)

I couldn't find an email address to reply to your question on my blog, so I'll do it here.

To change the wording on your comments form, go into the posting page on your blog and click on "Settings", then under "Settings" click on "Comments".

Scroll down about halfway and you'll find a heading marked "Comment Form Message" that has a place to type in the message of your choosing that will appear on your comment form.

Make sure the message is to your liking, go to the bottom of the page and click "Save Settings".

That should do it! If you have any problems just email me:

  5. We sang that at church on Sunday and I can never get through it without crying. Probably the most wonderful hymn ever written.

    LeAnn :)
