No whining allowed aloud!
If you really can't help it
then keep it to yourself!

Don't you get tired of a constant whiner?

I'm not against the occasional gripe or complaint, I catch myself at it all the time. And I'm not talking about your kiddos who are still on the learning curve, nor the ones who do have legitimate issues they're dealing with and just need to talk. I completely understand. What I'm talking about is the one who generally has a blessed life and still can't quit griping about anything and everything. And the most annoying part is that what they're complaining about is so unimportant. The half-empty cup kind of person.

I think the biggest cure for one who whines is to begin looking beyond yourself. Open your eyes and look around. There are tons of folks who are worse off than you, probably on your street alone.

That guy standing on a corner asking for money?

QUICK! What's the first thing we think of?

Go get a job.

But what if we trained ourselves to non-judgmentally think How can I help? (Obviously useing common sense.)

The crazy thing is you'll walk away feeling better about yourself.

What about helping serve a meal at a homeless shelter? Or, if you have the money, go buy an inexpensive backpack, put in some new socks, throw in whatever change/bills you might have and give it to the next homeless person you see (or just give him the socks...whatever!). Volunteer an hour a week and go read to a bed-ridden patient in a nursing home. You could even become a greeter at Wally's and get paid to smile! There are a gajillion ideas, if you'll just look beyond your own gripes. Even the smallest smile for someone who feels unloved may not mean anything to us but could give them hope for one more day.

I promise you, and if you're serious about being cured, you'll find yourself whining less and spending more time looking for opportunities to help others. Be a light in someone else's darkness and your own light will become brighter! It just takes a little practice.

Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world...Philippians 2:14,15 (nkjv)

It's All NO COMPLAININ' Good!

Seriously though, I think most all of us could benefit from griping less and counting our blessings more, me included.

  5. "Rejoice always, and again I say rejoice". You can't be griping and rejoicing at the same time and The Word is clear on this one.
