Our Week With Chels

We had a really nice week with Chels here, even tho' she had a nasty head cold and spent a lot of time resting. On Wednesday she perked up enough for us to get out for awhile. The weather was perfect--in the upper 50's. We ate at Chick-Fil-A and then headed over to the Build-A-Bear store and let Grace spend her Christmas gift card she received from her cousins. (I'll post pics on that later.) Then we took Chels over to the DSW shoe store. I had received a $50. gift card, though I had never heard of the store. She picked out a really cute, chocolate brown handbag and purple wallet.
.
The following couple of pics are from our 'delayed' Christmas at Gramies house. This little picture frame I refurbished for Chels. I found it at a local thrift store. It was a beat up, reddish-brown wooden frame with a corkboard in the center (sorry, no before pic). I spray-painted it black. Then found the cute fabric and ribbon in some of Chels' favorite colors. It's padded with the criss-crossed ribbon to tuck pictures or momentos in. It even involved a needle and thread which I don't do!
.
Chels likes to lovingly pick on me because I'm always bringing something home from a thrift store (or the curb) with high and lofty goals for each item. However, until lately, I haven't finished a single one of them. So I have a lot of unstarted projects. I've always told her, hey, one of these days, you'll see. And wouldn't you know? This was the first one I've actually finished. She loved it. I decided to let her put the pics she wants in the four little frames.

On Grace's Christmas list was a silver locket to put her sissy's picture in. We didn't get one for her, because Chels wanted to be the one to give it to her. I love the look of surprise on her face.

A tradition that Chels and her Gramies share together is (*cringe*) chocolate donuts for dinner (*cringe* again)! Although this time we did have a normal dinner, I still wanted to get a pic of their little tradition.
Grandma Nana and her friend came up to Reva's on Thursday for lunch. My niece and her kiddo's came over, and we all had a nice visit before Chels started feeling a little wimpy again and had to lay down for awhile.
.
We got Chels off to the Denver airport and she arrived back in Seattle safely. We said we weren't going to cry, but who are we trying to kid? I'm a 'cryer' and Chels comes by it honestly. We were doing good until Grace started crying, then we lost it. Aw, the bittersweetness of saying goodbye.

It's All Missing Her Good!

  1. What a good time you had! I think the donut tradition is hilarious, and it won't hurt occasionally.
The frame you made turned out great!
I always try not to, but always end up crying when we bring Andy to the airport. Glad to hear I'm not the only one!

  3. By the end of your post, I was crying too. Your family is precious and you obviously have so much love for one another.

The look on Grace's face was beyond beautiful! I know that made Chels feel so good. I hope that she is 100% better now.

Oh! And GREAT job on your project! I'm proud of you Brenda. It's all *completed craft project* good!

  4. Ah, good times! I'm not a fan of chocolate donuts anytime, but I can't imagine eating them for dinner! To each his own....

Love the refurbished photo frame! I've seen some made that way with the padded fabric and criss-crossed ribbons. They're great for kids' rooms and nurseries too, with the appropriate fabric.

I don't even want to think about the possibility of Jessica and Emmy moving over 20 miles away, much less several STATES away from me! No tears? Who DID you think you were fooling, girl?

Glad you had a good visit with Chels, although it's always bittersweet, knowing you have to let them go again.

    Happy new week, Brenda. :o)

    Love and hugs,

    Diane

  5. It looks like all of you had such a good time with Chels. I'm so happy that she got to come for a visit.

How precious that Grace wanted a locket with her sister's picture in it. The look of surprise on her face is priceless.

Donuts for dinner! Now that's my kind of dinner!

By the way, I'm a crier too. If you're a mom, you can't help it. The tears just automatically flow when you have to leave your children. Happens to me everytime!

  7. I'm so glad you had a good visit!!!

And that drive from Denver on 83 is really beautiful. Did you see the sign for Castlewood Canyon State Park? It's a nice place for a picnic and hike in the spring! But I've heard there are lots of snakes.

  8. I'm so impressed with the redo you did on that frame. I know she will enjoy having it.
You captured just the right moment with your camera of sweet Grace opening that gift. How sweet.
I like their donut tradition. What a fun thing to do. My youngest daughter would probably trade families if I told her about that...haha.
Glad you had a sweet time together despite the head cold.

  10. Looks like you all had a wonderful time together. Now that my children are all adults, I just cannot handle it if one of them. If they cry for any reason at all, well that's it! The floodgates are open! Ha!

They tell me they wish they had this type of sympathy when they were little! LOL!

  14. love your background Brenda. I need to get busy and change mine again soon, it's getting boring to me.
It was great having Chelsie here even though she spent most of her time avoiding me (good thing I'm not sensitive or anything, huh):)

  17. Stopping by from the "Heart" blog.

I totally understand the goodbyes as all three of my girls have moved away and out of state. I love the welcome home time, but the tears always come with the goodbyes!
