Hodgepodge – tax time reminder edition!

1. It's that most wonderful time of the year...tax season! Do you complete your own returns or farm that job out to the professionals?

We farm.  Me no do taxes.  Me have no clue.

2. This next question comes from Kansas Bob...he posed it in his response to something I asked in an earlier Wednesday post and I asked him if I could add it to the Hodgepodge some day. Today's the day....

Which do you think has changed you more-love or pain?

This is a hard one.  I would have to say pain.  Allowing the Lord to help me through some painful experiences has drawn me into a closer relationship with Him that I might not have experienced otherwise.  Working out forgiveness issues especially when they’ve involved pain inflicted on our children, helping us get ourselves out of financial messes we brought on ourselves, and generally pain-in-the-hiney stuff through our own foolish mistakes—all have made me a better person, especially because the Lord didn’t allow me to wallow in the pain…for long!  I’m reminded of the portion of Psalm 23 that states:  Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, Thou art with me…

3. Tangerine Tango has been named color of the year for 2012. Your thoughts? Would I find this color anywhere in your house? How about in your closet? If not, will you be adding this color to your life in some way in 2012? If you're not sure what tangerine tango looks like click here.

That color looks very similar to what I used to call coral.  You wouldn’t find it in my decorating scheme.  I would wear it, because I can pretty much wear anything, but I wouldn’t necessarily run out and buy it.

4. Are you a collector? What do you collect and does it get admired, used, and/or dusted regularly?

The one thing I’ve enjoyed collecting the last several years is vintage sewing patterns.  I have several hundred.  I use them in my altered art pieces.  Sometimes I find little goodies in them, mainly scraps of material.  Who knows?  Maybe someday I’ll find some Great Granny’s hidden money stashed in one!  I can dream, can’t I?!

I also have quite a collection of vintage buttons.  Set a newly acquired tin of vintage buttons in front of me and I’ll be occupied for hours!

5. February is National Heart Month...besides a green salad what is one tasty heart healthy dish you like to prepare?

One of our favorites is Honey Nut Chicken Stir Fry.  Lots of crisp tender veggies, chicken and slivered almonds in a honey/orange juice/soy/ginger sauce and served over rice or pasta.

  6. When was the last time you had car trouble?

Not in a long time, thank God!  My husband is really good about keeping up on general maintenance.

7. Have you been more demanding on yourself lately or less? Is that a good trend?

I am not demanding on myself, unless it’s something I am having a hard time overcoming.  Like reaching that point where you realize you have to change such-and-such and taking the steps to do it.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I don’t know why I didn’t have my camera with me, though showing you my winter-white legs would not have been attractive, but I wore shorts on Jan. 30!  I don’t think that’s ever happened in my lifetime!  It was Grace’s day off so we to the park and had a picnic.  She played barefoot nearly all day.

It’s All Good!

  2. The weather IS wacky. We've had a very mild winter although they say we might get snow this weekend. We got pounded last year so I'm not complaining.

  3. Didn't know you collected vintage patterns!!! Wish I'd have known that when I gave a bunch away. And, NO, you would not have found any Benjamins or Georges in mine!!!!

  4. Very mild winter here too. Not as much snow but a good bit of rain.

  5. It's been in the 60s here! I hope we don't pay for this weather in April.

  6. We farm our taxes out too! And the love/pain question is a tough one. A bit of both. I love my husband more every day. He & I have been brought closer to the Lord & each other recently through the pain & suddeness of his battle with pancreatic cancer. He is doing well now. He just finished radiation 3 weeks ago. I don't know. I think maybe it's the love that keeps changing us even more.

  7. The weather has been crazy this year. I'm beginning to wonder why we got the girls coats this year.

I liked your answer to #2, not because you had to experiance the pain, but because you have allowed God to work through it and show his love to you in that way.

  8. Amen to #2... and yeah, what's up with the weather this winter? Not that I'm complaining... but it's just bizarre! My fear is that we will get tons of snow in May - which just might set me over the edge, I'm just sayin... :-)

  9. A picnic in the park sounds like fun, especially on January 31.

    Good answer on #2.

  10. Brenda,
You've been my lunch companion today, although you were unaware! I've been catching up on your blog, while eating my lunch. The bad thing is that I was eating pizza and then got down to your "fasting" post and felt bad about consuming such a bad lunch!

Anyway - love the hodgepodge Wednesday posts!

You always have such a great attitude!
Thanks for being a faithful reader of Heritage Creek and keeping up with my randomness:)

    Have a great day!

  11. What an interesting collection, vintage patterns and buttons. I just bought a cross made out of vintage buttons. It is so unique and quite a conversation starter.

Enjoyed your answers and blessings for a great rest of the week!

  12. Had to laugh at your "coral" comment. There doesn't seem to be anything new under the sun, eh? We just recycle or rename things!!

  13. I love the idea of your vintage pattern collection. And that you can use them in a productive way. Awesome!

  14. I've done my share of growing through the pain, too. Definitely learned more about myself than I otherwise would have known, if the Lord didn't take me down that road a time or two. I find myself often times saying to my children, What doesn't kill you will make you stronger. lol I can laugh at that statement now, but during the midst of my trials I know I wasn't laughing. However, I did know God had a purpose and in Him I kept my faith til He revealed His way to me. Thank you for visiting yesterday. I'm still dragging my feet to get back into the groove of things. Have a joyful week!

  15. Vintage patterns and buttons--what neat things to collect! I used to sew, way back when, and somewhere I have a box of old patterns. My husband has a jar of old buttons that belonged to my mom. I still remember when people saved their buttons!

I really liked your answer for #2. I feel pretty much the same way about my own life.

  17. I'm not into orange at all but I have seen that color on a number of new apartments.

I love looking at vintage buttons, too.

We're in the 50s, too. Love it!

  18. What kind of "altered art pieces" do you do with the vintage patterns? (New visitor from the Hodgepodge, so if you've posted about them before I may find in a bit as I browse through your blog.)
I home educated our girls for many years. Loved it.
