Friday’s Fave five

friday fave five spring

I’m linking up with Susanne here.

1.  I saw my first red-breasted robin while on a walk this week.  Probably not a big deal for those living in milder climates, but I don’t ever remember seeing a robin in our area the first of February.  I’ll have to admit it did give me a little more spring in my step.

2.  Reading Little Women with Grace.  What a neat classic it is.  Grace is learning through it that life takes on all sorts of twists and turns.  It’s not all fun and games, but it’s not all ugly either.  We haven’t gotten to the part where Beth dies, but she has a suspicion that someone is going to, so I’ll make sure and have the tissue handy—for both of us.

3.  I’m enjoying our new computer.  Our laptop died at Christmas {how convenient}.  Thankfully we had it in our budget, and after some bumps with the first one, everything worked out within the 2-week no-questions-asked return policy.

4.  Shedding thoughts and ideas in my personal walk with the Lord that have been ingrained in me for many years but have been actually contrary to the truth in His Word has been a blessing.  Doctrines of men, preconceived ideas, scripture taken completely out of context, man’s opinion through books—all are examples of how far away we can walk from the truths in His Word.  One thing that has helped me is to realize that not everything that comes from the pulpit is gospel…ouch!…but true.  I am responsible to search out the scriptures, to study contextually.

5.  Realizing and then correcting something in me physically that will help me and my family be even more healthy.  Just when you think you’ve tweaked all you can tweak you find something else to tweak.  I’m glad I’m still tweakable!

It’s All Friday Good!

  1. I love Little Women. I've read the book and seen both movies!!

So true that not all from the pulpit is correct. My hubby is a pastor and always encourages the congregation to check him out. He does all he can to teach truth, but he could make a mistake. As you said, we are responsible to check it out for ourselves.

    Good post.

  2. Our laptop computer died back in the early fall, so Chris surprised me with an iPad. I told him at the time that I'd never use it...how wrong was I?! I love it!

  3. Enjoyed your 5 - especially I could relate to #4 as we continue to grow in the knowledge of our Lord and The Holy Spirit continues to open up HIS WORD.

  4. Oh, Little Women! It's a classic. And when you're finished with Little Women, there are Little Men and Jo's Boys.
It is so important to understand what the Scriptures truly say!

  5. Ha! Love that...being tweakable. It's good to be a checker of truth for sure! I love spotting more and more birds these days!
    Have a great weekend.

  6. Hey, Tweekable, Tweek or Tweeker, which ever you are. Good post and love that you were able to step outside of yourself to see things that you were missled into believing before. If we could all do that this world would definitely be a better place to share space. Guess I'd better get to Tweeking over here too.

  7. "I'm glad I'm still tweakable" Love that! May we all be tweakable in the areas we need to be. And I loved your 4th favorite! It is very difficult to change out way of thinking when things are so ingrained into us but the Word of God sets us free! Paul the apostle commended a group of people, can't remember their names at the moment, when they didn't just take things at face value but went and searched the scriptures to see if it was true.

I'm still looking for my first robin. No sign of them yet. Soon I hope.

  8. I just love Little Women! And "I'm still tweakable" is GREAT! A headached kept me away on Friday, but I wanted to come by and give you some FFF greetings. Have a great week!

  9. I went to a mini-seminar yesterday that challenged my scriptural interpretation of some things. Interesting, isn't it? We just assume that what we've been taught is correct without ever probing for ourselves? The speakers pointed out that some things are scriptural ABSOLUTES! And some things are just preference (ie infant vs adult baptism, worship style, etc. It was very eye opening to me. And freeing!

And I LOVE Little Women, but you're definitely going to need the tissues! :)

  10. I love that about still being tweakable! We need that -- we won't be perfect til heaven!

We've been going through some experiences like you #4 the last few years. So important to check everything against the Word, and the Word in context.

Love Little Women -- just listened to it as an audiobook recently -- I don't know how many times I've read it. I love that they are very human. And you'll definitely need the tissues handy for Beth! Another part that always gets to me is Jo's loneliness when she's alone in NY.

  11. Thank you for visiting my blog for FFF! It's nice to "meet" you!

I know what you mean about #4. I'm experiencing some of those particular birth/labor pangs right now, and it is tough (but good!).

Little Women--ah! My oldest dd read it on her Nook that she won through our library's (well, one of them) summer reading program. She's only 8, so I'm not sure how much she really got out of it, and I'm sure we'll revisit it again in the future. Still, it is SUCH a good story!

  13. I loved Little Women! It must be sweet to read with your daughter.

We haven't seen any robins yet this year. We don't get a lot of birds in our yard, so it might take a little longer. :)
